Can insurance be done inside a dealership effectively... efficiently?
Most auto dealers are still trying to figure this out… How to better connect their dealership with customers through insurance. Sounds simple and many have promised it through different dealership agency programs, right?
As we know over the years there are have been so many models and options tried but what happens
The Biggest Problem we continually see is most insurance companies or agents have done business the same way for years and just need you to conform to them. Heck these are the ones that think technology means using email instead of fax.
Fix Attempt # 1:
Along comes a major player in the insurance business who’s already tied to the auto industry via dealer services and they have a shiny new object called a _________ Auto Dealer Program, and have all the promises of....
New Residual Revenue Stream
Build an Asset
Increase Customer Retention
And those are all fantastic and why wouldn’t everyone in the auto industry want that???
The problem is when issues begin to slowly rear their ugly head and it’s the details that got quickly passed over
Fix Attempt # 2:
Next comes along the “Market Disruptors” (InsureTech help is on the way!)… which has typically just been a fancy term for online website with comparative raters, but where’s the real help beyond that?
One of the biggest players in the auto industry says hey let us “fetch you some quotes,” but what the heck does that even mean? Isn’t that what all the companies try to do?
Let me sum it up. The insurance industry has finally gotten better at entering your info one time and getting multiple quotes versus the days of driving around to multiple agents or being on the phone all day. So a lot of these companies give you an online sampling of the quotes, but what else?
Back to the online “fetch you some quotes” options, where yes you’ll probably see some decent options but…
Let it out, yep you’re back stuck with a similar list of issues but just a different approach being promised by a new company.
Fix Attempt # 3:
Let’s just put a computer out in the open and let customers easily hop on GEICO, Progressive, etc.
(Big sigh here and maybe a face palm) THEY’RE STILL ONLY GETTING 1 QUOTE
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, the more they spend on insurance = less car or F&I products they can buy!!
Just in case, here’s some quick info about the different types of agents.
Captive Insurance Carriers (State Farm, Allstate, Shelter, etc.)
So, nobody's figured out the best approach?
Well I won’t go that far, because someone who got caught in between the Insurance and Automotive industries started to question things.
After spending 10 years in the insurance industry and a year of leading a Dealership Owned agency and beating my head on a desk, I started to ask some questions? And with these questions, we designed the best approach, because it came from the auto dealers needs and not just the insurance industry’s vantage.
Back to the original question...
